Anti Ragging

JMCT is committed to a ragging-free environment for its students and practices a zero-tolerance policy regarding ragging in any form – whether in campus or outside. An active anti-ragging cell ensures that any incidence of ragging is immediately detected and dealt with.

Anti Ragging Provision

Action against ragging: Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act 1999 which is in effect from 15th May 1999 has the following provisions against Ragging. The college made following provisios for action against ragging As per the Supreme Court direction, if any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the colleges authorities, the accused student/s will be given an opportunity to explain & if his/her explanation is not satisfactory , the college authorities would expel him/her from the college.

  1. Ragging within or outside of any educational Institution is prohibited.
  2. Whosoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets, or propagates ragging within or outside any educational institute shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term up to 2 years and / or penalty which may extend to ten thousand rupees.
  3. Any student convicted of an offence of ragging shall be dismissed from the educational institution and such student shall not be admitted in any other educational institution for a period of five years from the date of order of such dismissal

ANTI RAGGING COMMITTEE

The anti-ragging committee is empowered to carry out is task in all ways. Some of the activities it undertakes are:

  1. Constant vigilance across the campus and outside (in college buses and areas near college) to ensure that there is no incidents of ragging.
  2. Publication of the anti-ragging policy across the campus and in publications to ensure maximum knowledge distribution.
  3. Dealing with detected cases immediately and with due diligence to ensure there is no delay in justice.
  4. Physical separation of first year students from the rest of the students (like separate lunch hour and remote building) to minimize contact.
  5. Meting out exemplary punishment (with approval from Principal) as per guidelines from JNTU to perpetrators to deter them from repeating the offense.
  6. Counseling of victims to ensure their return to the mainstream without fear.

ANTI-HARASSMENT CELL

As per the guidelines of UGC and the Supreme Court an Anti Harassment Committee has been established by the college to provide a healthy atmosphere to the students of the college. Anti Harassment Committee deals with issues relating to harassment. The committee is formed to prevent sexual assault, rape and other related crimes on girl students.

STUDENTS GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

The College has a Students' Grievance Redressal Committee. The functions of the Committee are to look into the complaints lodged by any student, and judge its merit. The Grievance Redressal Committee is also empowered to look into matters of harassment. Anyone with a genuine grievance may approach the Grievance Redressal Committee members in person. In case the person is unwilling to appear in self, grievances may be sent in writing. Grievances may also be sent through e-mail to the officer in-charge of Students' Grievance Redressal Committee or Principal.

GENDER SENSITIZATION CELL

A campus level Gender sensitization cell has been constituted in the year 2019. It has been instructed to spread the message of gender equality in order to eliminate gender bias insensitivity through seminars, poster display, organizing exhibitions etc. The cell has also been mainly entrusted with taking up cases of harassment and atrocities on female teachers, employees and girl students, enquire and take appropriate action against the culprits.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To examine all grievance letters received from the women staff/students regarding the sexual harassment.
  2. To examine and investigate on each complaint received from the women staff/ students by collecting the required information from connected people.
  3. To give feedback to the women staff/students concerned/ to find solution for their grievances.
  4. The committee will record such grievances received from the women staff/ students in a separate register maintained exclusively for this purpose. The replay given by the committee to the women staff/students for grievance should also be recorded in the register.
  5. The committee should find suitable solution to settle the problems faced by the women staff/students in regard to matters relating to sexual harassment within 10 days after through investigation.
